Sometimes the web pages which make use of plugins to display content find some problem in opening up. This may or may not be a plugin fault. The common problems caused by plugins are:

  • Browser hangs up.
  • Problem in downloading.
  • Images do not load.

Here is the series of steps to remove the problems caused by plugins.

Step 1: Find out whether its really a plugin fault( don’t make an innocent plugin a victim of your frustration ).

  1. Go to Tools->Add-ons and select plugins panel.
  2. Select a plugin in the list and then click its Disable button. Do this for each plugin. You do not need to restart Firefox for the changes to take effect.
  3. Test for your problem. If it does not occur, go back to the Add-ons     window and re-enable plugins one-by-one with the Enable button until you find which one causes your problem to occur.

Step 2 : Updating plugins to latest versions.

As Firefox 3 is the latest browser on the web world, some older plugins’ versions may find comaptibility problems with it. So this problem can be solved by updating your plugins to their latest versions.

Step 3 : If the above steps do not work, uninstall the plugin.

If after following the above 2 steps, the problem isn’t solved, it is better to uninstall the plugin. Sometimes the plugin doesn’t comes with an uninstaller program. In such cases you need to uninstall it manually. Follow these steps to do so:

  1. Type about:config in address bar and press Ente Return r. You may get a warning page. Ignore the warning and click " i’ll be careful, i promise ! "
  2. Search for the preference: plugin.expose_full_path .
  3. Double-click on the plugin.expose_full_path preference in the list to change the value to true .
  4. Enter about:plugins into the Location bar to display the About Plugins page.
  5. Each entry in the About Plugins page will have "File name:" followed by a path. Use Windows Explorer to navigate Navigate to the folder shown for the plugin you want to remove.
  6. Rename the file to something other than its normal name - e.g. npswf32 becomes WWnpswf32.
