McAfee reports dangerous domainsMcAfee has recently released a report about the most dangerous top level domains(TLD), that is domains used to spread malware, spyware etc. It has identified .hk(Hong-Kong) to be the most dangerous TLD followed by .cn(China), .ph(Phillipines), .ro(Romania) and .ru(Russia).

McAfee analyzed these domains using their McAfee Site Advisory tool that checks the web for malware, spyware or other threats.

Malicious sites use these TLD’s as they are cheap to buy(.cn for 35 cents!!) and don’t have proper regulations. Report also says that most of the domains having TLD in dangerous category are English sites.

The TLD’s on safer side are Finland (.fi), Japan (.jp), Norway (.no), Slovenia (.si), and Colombia (.co). These TLD’s use proper regulatory measures while assigning domains e.g. while buying a .jp or .au domain , they require a proof of company incorporation.

McAfee has also found that probability of downloading spyware, adware, viruses etc. from surfing the Web increased 41.5 percent over 2007.
