This is a very common problem faced by many of us that whenever we double click on a drive or a folder, a search window appears. Many people thought that the only solution to this is to re-install the operating system but no its not. I have a very simple solution to your problem. Just follow the following steps.
1. Go to Run and type regedit.
2. When it opens then go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTDirectoryshell. Then on the right side you will see the “default” key. Now delete the default key.

3. Now go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTDriveshell again you will see a default key on the right side, delete the default key.
Now close regedit and restart your computer. If still your problem is not solved then again go to regedit, expand to the same path as stated above and delete the key find under both.

I hope that this trick works for you.
This made the problem worse for me. I can still access regedit though. Is there any way to recreate those entries?
