Back in 2003 a Japnese scientist named Susumu Tachi at Tokyo University developed a coat which makes those who wear it appear invisible. It was predicted that it will be available comercially around 2008 but now it will take a couple of years to hit the markets. The technique behind this is simple but very complex. As you can see in the image above, the demonstrator is wearing this special coat and in the image below

you can see it more clearly that that how effective it is. There is a camera on the back side of the coat which records everything at the back of the person and projects it on the coat which is made of some special fabric. This technique will be extremely useful for surgeons as they will be able to see through their hands while operating.

That’s not quite invisibility. It’s active camo, and it’s extremely inaccurate. Also, I believe you would still have a shadow, so I’m not sure how much good it will do in surgery where things are pretty dark. And you’d need cameras ON your hands.
