Gmail has updated contacts management so that you can exercise more control over your e-mail Contacts. Now Gmail keeps those e-mail addresses to whom you send an e-mail in Suggested Contacts which are not in your contacts list. Earlier it directly added them to your Contacts List which lead to cluttered Contacts List.

From now on, when you frequently mail one of your Suggested Contacts, it’ll be automatically added to My contacts. You can also control if you want to add frequently mailed suggested contacts to My Contacts or not by ticking the check box highlighted in above screenshot.
My Contacts will contain only those e-mail contacts which you’ll explicitly add through Add Contact.
