The title might sound scary to most of the readers but it seems like Yahoo, the world leader in providing free web based e-mail services has advanced its first step towards our fears.
The facility of free e-mailing provided by Yahoo is one of the most popular web based tool on the Internet. With the advent of Yahoo Mail Plus majority of users have a big smile on their faces but a small proportion( users like me ) smell something not very happening in the coming future. Feels like, by introducing YMP, Yahoo wants to show users the signs of a drastic change in its free web based e-mail services in the coming future. A change where signing up for an e-mail account will not be free.
A number of readers may disagree with me here. As Yahoo is on the top of hot-list of advertisers who make Yahoo earn a huge money. Transforming from free account provider to a paid one may result in profit reduction for Yahoo( As user traffic may decline and so is the rank).
But I am predicting this on the under given basis:
On an average every Yahoo mail user has a number of accounts( Forums are my source for this ) ranging from 3 to 6. But the user uses only one or at most two accounts on daily basis i.e. the other accounts can be categorised as dummy accounts. These dummy accounts eat up space of Yahoo’s databases in different countries ( annoying to Yahoo ). If the total users were just some hundred in number then it was fine but when millions of dummy accounts are present then its a matter of concern for Yahoo.
Now what I want to convey through this post is that Yahoo may be planning a major transformation from a free e-mail provider to a paid one just to get rid of these dummy accounts. I mean no user will ever waste $20 just for creating a dummy account for fun. This will help Yahoo in handy maintenance of its databases.
