Whether you are a blogger, a software company employ or play any other role, a good health makes everyone feel good. Sometimes it happens that we have a bit of ailment but we keep on ignoring a visit to the doctor, possible reasons being one of these : too laziness to leave for doctor’s place, fear of heavy charges’ payment to doctor ;) , ignorance about the symptom etc.. But thanks to technology that has brought ailment detector to our homes.

WebMD

WebMD.com is a free online service that helps making people aware of their ailments. As you surf the website you become aware of more-n-more features of it. The best part of the service that i like personally is the Symptom Checker tool that sorts out our ailment using a graphical interface.

Symptom Checker

People can simply follow these instructions in order to use this tool. I give just an introduction about this tool:

Users are asked for their gender and age, after which they are shown a human body, whose main parts are highlighted when user hovers over the mouse pointer. If a user has a ailment, say headache, he’ll select the head part of the body shown to you. After this user selects the symptoms associated with that body part from a symptoms’ list. Then the user is shown the possible causes of that ailment.

Advantages: Though this tool is only for informative purpose and can’t diagnose a problem but it still got advantages:

  1. Makes user more aware of the possible causes of his ailment(s).
  2. Motivates user to make an immediate visit to doctor if he has been postponing his visit due to various excuses. As after knowing about the reason of his ailment nobody is such ignorant to visit a doctor.
  3. Saves a user from severe damage that could be caused by ailment if he kept on postponing his visit.
  4. Saves a user from wrong predictions about his symptom.
