Add memory to Vista with help of a memory key

Ever thought of increasing your Vista powered PC’s primary memory without adding RAM chips to it? Sounds weird, but it’s possible to increase RAM of a Vista powered PC with the help of USB key drive!!

Vista has a very nifty feature called Readyboost. This feature makes use of free storage on USB momory key, thus extending the total RAM of PC. You need not be a geek to attain this facility but these three things:

  1. A PC powered with Windows Vista.
  2. A spare USB2 socket.
  3. A USB2 memory key.

NOTE: In order to avail this feature, the USB memory key you are using should be marked with “Enhanced for Readyboost”.

After you have the required apparatus with you just follow these steps:

  1. Plug in the USB memory key into the USB socket.
  2. Right click on the USB key’s icon in Win Explorer and choose properties.
  3. Go to the “Readyboost” tab. Select the option that says “Use this device”. The slider that you see below tells the Readyboost that how much memory of USB key to use to help speed up Vista.
  4. Click OK and Voila !!

The speed improvement that you notice varies from system to system and also depends on the operating speed of USB memory key.
