Wikipedia is such a great source of information that everyone of us would like to keep it on our pc’s. Well, to keep the whole of it is not possible but WikiTaxi can keep a good part of it on your pc. WikiTaxi is a portable application that delivers the Wikipedia of your choice to wherever you go. With WikiTaxi you can read, search, and browse Wikipedia offline. WikiTaxi has a database in which Wikipedia pages are stored in a compressed form.

You can always download the wikipedia updates for your wikitaxi database.

How it works

First you will have to download WikiTaxi.It requires no installation, you just have to extract the WikiTaxi archive to any folder. To open it just double click on WikiTaxi.exe. When you open it for the first time the welcome screen guides you to download databases for WikiTaxi as shown in the screenshot below. The size of different databases can vary from a few MB to some GB according to your choice. The database dump is downloaded in XML format.

After the download has finished, run WikiTaxi_Importer.exe to add wiki articles to wikitaxi’s database. WikiTaxi_Importer dialog box will ask for the XML dump file, you will have to provide the path for it.

For bigger databases you should have atleast 1 Gb of RAM for better performances. After importing datbase you are ready to feel and explore wikipedia offline.
