Friendfeed now provides updates from your friends in real-time in your Friendfeed home page. Now you could just open your Friendfeed homepage and sit back to see the action as the page automatically adds recent updates from your friends.
This real time update feature is still in Beta and is not enabled by default. to enable it, simply go to your Friendfeed homepage and click on Real-time.
According to Friendfeed blog, they are using a technique known as long polling in which the server only responds when there is some new information which reduces excessive load on the server.
The comments and like/unlike feature on your friends’ updates remain the same. There is also an option to pause the real-time updates if you find updates coming in too fast. You can also open real time updates in a pop up window that gives a feel of chatting with your friends as updates arrive.
