Sometimes you come across sites that have external media links such as MP3, Quicktime or Realmedia. Traditionally Firefox offers you to download the the file, open it in external player or opens a new tab and starts playing if you have installed the required plugins. But if you want to open the file in your own media player and even after closing the firefox the playback should continue then Media player connectivity is is what you require.
Media Player Connectivity is a firefox add-on that sends the embedded media to the external player for streaming. The add-on will scan the installed media players and after installation it’ll associate the various media types to them. The various media types supported by this plugin includes RAM, RPM, WMV, WM, WMA, ASX, ASF,OGG and playlist file types PLS and M3U.
The settings can configured manually if your media player didn’t get recognized during the initial scan. Media files can be send and played automatically in the external player on the user’s request.
The latest version is only compatible with Windows. You can check the previous version if you are a Mac user. [via gHacks]
