Scanned documents or files are usually in Image formats and sometimes you need to copy text from those documents. Typing text manually might be possible solution but here is a nice little utility that’ll let you extract text off from scanned documents, images quickly and easily.
With JOCR, you can just select the area on your screen and leave the rest to JOCR, it’ll recognize all the text like elements on the screen and will copy them to your clipboard so that you can use the text.
With this utility you can copy text from secured pdf, secure web pages or even from your screen elements like taskbar, menus etc.
This utility does not require installation but needs Microsoft Office Document Imaging component to work, which you can install from MS Office installation disc if you are not using Office 2003 or later.
If you’re aware of any other free OCR utility, then feel free to share it in comments.
