You might remember the Search the Web button near the Gmail search box that let you search web but opened search results in a new page, making you leave your favorite web mail service. But now with this new Gmail Labs feature called Google Search, you can search the web using Google right within Gmail without having to leave the Gmail window.

Just enable the Google Search Labs feature and you’ll notice a new box in sidebar to search using Google.

Google Search In Gmail

When you search using this box, the search results open up on right side just like a chat window opens up when you chat with a friend.

And that’s not all, it even remembers your recent searches which you can of course clear up using the Clear link in sidebar box. Also, you can send the search results to your friend using e-mail message. Just hover over the search result, and tiny arrow will show up on right side, click on it to send search result to your friend.

And if you’ve keyboard shortcuts turned on, then you can hit g and then / and start typing your query to search. When you are composing a message, this shortcut won’t work, at that time use Ctrl+g.

Yesterday, Gmail Labs launched another feature which lets you increase emoticons available in Gmail.

Gmail Extra Emoticons

Enable the Extra Emoji in Labs settings to have some nice out of the box emoticons to add to your message.
