1. FEBE(Firfox Environment Backup Extension)

Febe is an extension for firefox that helps you back up the Firefox profile in a very easy way. It goes beyond backing up your profile and it saves all your extensions as installable .xpi files. Febe backs up your extensions, bookmarks, passwords, history and everything that firefox offers.

The main features of this extension are:

• Schedule your back-up on a daily, weekly or monthly basis.
• Backup reminder that alerts you if the backup is not done within specified number of days.
• Verify your extension directory. Upgrading Firefox versions sometimes leaves garbage in the extensions directory. Febe can clean it up.
• You can quickly backup as many or as few individual extensions/themes as you like

2. MozBackup

Mozbackup is a free utility that will automatically backup firefox profile. It can also back up your Mozilla thunderbird profiles. The process of backing up is very simple as the wizard guides you through various steps you need to perform. Download Mozbackup here

3.Do Backup manually

While there are tools to backup firefox profiles like the ones above, but there’s another geeky way around – Manual backup of the profiles folder that contains all of your firefox extensions, history and saved bookmarks. The main problem is to locate the folder. You can find the profile folder here:

For Vista :

C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<Profile name>\

For Xp:

C:\Documents and Settings\<Windows login/user name>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<Profile name>\

For Debian based Linux distros(e.g. Ubuntu):
.mozilla/firefox in your home directory

Just copy this folder to some other location and in case you have lost your firefox profile due to system crash, upgrading to new version of firefox or some other reason then you can restore it by copying the same folder back to the Firefox Profiles folder. An advantage of manual backup is that you don’t need to have Firefox functioning in order to restore your backup.
