The Joint partnership between the Indian Telecom giant Airtel and twitter brings a new facility for the airtel users which allows them to tweet from mobile. Earlier in 2008 twitter had provided users the option to tweet from mobile but had to withdraw it due to huge amount of traffic resulting from sms.
To signup for tweetsms, airtel users need to send “Signup” as SMS to 53000. After this the users need to follow the instructions that come after the sms. The annoying thing is that you have to pay Re1 per SMS.
This is certainly a smart stepΒ by twitter as large percentage of India users prefer to use SMS more than using internet on their mobile phones.
