Nokia N9 Meego Based Smartphone Announced – Price and features

Nokia has announced their latest smartphone N9 based on the Linux based Meego platform, jointly developed by Nokia and Intel. Nokia N9 is the first ever phone to come without a single button control on the front surface. The navigation is solely based on the swipe based gestures. The home screen has three panels that you can swipe, first one contains all applications you have installed, second one is the notifications and messages area and the third panel contains the applications currently active in a form of grid.

Nokia N9 will have support for Dolby Digital Plus and Dolby headphone, first phone to support that. There is a 8MP Carl Zeiss camera with auto focus and LED flash. Nokia claims it to be fastest camera capable of capturing instant photos and also with a minimum launch time. It also records HD videos with 16:9 Widescreen with smooth continuous focusing.

Nokia N9 features a new browser supporting HTML5 based on the Webkit2 technology. Nokia N9 will be available in three colors – black, pink and blue.

Samsung has announced the latest version of the Google Nexus, S i9023 which is based on the v2.3 Gingerbread of the Android OS. It features a 4″ S-LCD Capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. The other specialties of this touchscreen phone is that it has a Olephobic surface and contour display with a curved glass screen.

Samsung Google Nexus S i9023 is driven by a 1GHz processor from ARM, and it also has additional PowerVR GPU for graphical performance boost. It has a 5MP camera with auto focus and LED flash and other features such as Geo tagging and touch focus are also present. The internal memory is 16GB and it is not expandable.

LG has recently announced their first Android based Tablet called Optimus Pad, running the latest v3.0 Honeycomb of the Android OS. Optimus Pad is driven by a Dual Core 1GHz NVidia Tegra processor. It features a 8.9″ 3D-LCD Capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 768 x 1280 pixels.

Optimus Pad is another 3D capable device from LG and features a dual 5MP camera with auto focus and LED flash, and is able to capture stereoscopic 3D images. It can also capture some high quality 2D videos at 1080p and also good 3D videos at 720p. Optimus Pad has internal memory of 32GB and supports memory expansion with a Micro SD card up to 32GB.

HTC has recently announced Windows based smartphone HTC HD7S, loaded with the Windows Phone 7 OS. HD7S features a 4.3″ S-LCD Capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. It derives its power from a 1GHz Scorpian procesor along with an additional Adreno 200 GPU.

HTC HD7S has a decent 5MP camera with autofocus, dual-LED flash and ability to record HD videos at 720p. It has internal storage of 16GB and has 512MB ROM and 576MB RAM, however the memory is not expandable.

Nokia has recently announced their new smartphone Nokia Astound based on the Symbian OS. Nokia Astound is based on the latest v3.1 of the Symbian OS and runs on the 680 MHz SRM processor, along with a Broadcom GPU. It features a 3.5″ AMOLED Capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 360 x 640 pixels. It has scratch resistant gorilla glass display and supports Multi touch input.

HP Touchpad is a tablet from HP running on the HP’s WebOS OS v3.0. It is powered with a 1.2GHz Dual Core Scorpian processor with Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset. HP touchpad features a 9.7″ Capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 768 x 1024 pixels. It comes under two memory options – 16GB and 32GB, and there is no memory expansion slot. It has a primary camera of 1.3MP and there is also no secondary front facing camera.

In the connectivity it has Wi-Fi, but no 3G and it is not a GSM device, so there is no support for GSM voice, SMS or MMS.
