What you do when you have to search the web using Google search engine ? Very obvious!! If you are a Firefox 3 user you’ll type the query in the search box provided next to the location bar. But what you do when you want to see the results from Wikipedia ?? Again very obvious, you click the search box logo and select Wikipedia from the pull-down list of search engines and then type your query into the search box and hit enter. Very simple but quite time consuming !! Ain’t that?? If you feel so then I bet, this article will be very beneficial for you.

Today, i had to sign-up with a Chinese web site to use their Document reader software. As the website was in Chinese language, at first i thought of using Google Translate to translate that page to English but then at second thought, i searched for a Firefox add-on that can do translation of web page for me.

And guess what?? i found this very useful add-on ‘gTranslate’ for Firefox that lets translate web pages to multiple languages.

MozBackup is a freeware windows utility that lets you backup all your firefox extensions, saved bookmarks, settings as a single file which you can use to restore your firefox to earlier state using MozBackup.

It backs up the Firefox Profile into a pcv file which you can store at a secured location. You can then easily use Mozbackup to restore Firefox in case you have reinstalled your Firefox or are using Firefox on a different system.

The pcv file created is basically a Zip archive, just rename it to *.zip and you can easily see its contents.

Here’s a nice tip on how to create a keyboard shortcut for launching Firefox in Windows. Just right click on shortcut icon of Firefox and open its Properties dialog.

Under Shortcut key in Shortcut tab press any alpha-numeric key on your keyboard and shortcut will be created as Ctrl+Alt+ [your key] e.g. if you press F on your keyboard, shortcut will be created as Ctrl+Alt+F.

This shortcut is quite useful when you need to launch Firefox, when you have several windows open and don’t want to minimize them to get to Firefox shortcut or  so tired to click on start menu and browse for Firefox shortcut.

This technique can be used for almost any program, just drop its shortcut on Desktop and apply above procedure to create a shortcut. This method works both in Windows XP and Vista.

Sometimes the web pages which make use of plugins to display content find some problem in opening up. This may or may not be a plugin fault. The common problems caused by plugins are:

• Browser hangs up.
• Problem in downloading.
• Images do not load.
